Meet Our Team

Dr Dee Arnold

General Practitioner

Dee is a GP in the south west who joined RCSWA Regional Training Hubs in December last year. After three RMO years at Bunbury Regional Hospital, she trained with RACGP in the South West, working in Busselton and Bunbury. Dee’s advanced skills and interest are in Sport and Exercise Medicine alongside General Practice.

Dr Emma Jones

General Practitioner

Emma is a rural GP and Medical Coordinator with RCSWA. She receives referrals from Headspace in Geraldton for young people dealing with mental health & physical health issues who need a GP. Emma has an interest in research and evaluation, and is commencing her early research career with support from RCSWA Regional Training Hubs.

Dr Lorri Hopkins

General Practitioner

Lorri is a rural GP, Practice Principal and Medical Educator in Albany, passionate about rural medicine and mentoring students and registrars. She supports rural GP pathways through RCSWA RTH and was awarded the 2020 Brian Williams Award for contributions to rural healthcare. Lorri is also registered with the Doctors Health Advisory Service WA.

Dr Melody Miolin

General Practitioner

Melody feels privileged to be part of the Broome community working with Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service and Headspace and enjoys helping young people stay healthy. As RCSWA Medical Coordinator, she shares her passion for rural and remote medicine with future medical students, promoting the rewards and challenges of practicing in these unique settings.

Michael Mitchell

Community Cultural Expert

Michael is a Yamatji man of Nyamal and Malgana descent. His country extends from the Pilbara to Shark Bay in Western Australia. The health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people is uppermost in Michael’s mind and he has been proactive throughout his long and distinguished career in achieving and advocating for Mental Wellbeing in his community.

Nigel Termain

Residential Support Worker

Nigel has lived experience of burnout from remote area nursing, autism, associated anxiety and depression recovery. He works for Geraldton Hope Community Services as a Residential Support Worker, as well as chairing the Midwest Consumer and Carer Advisory Group.

Dr Mathew Coleman

Clinical Psychiatrist

Mat is a rural Psychiatrist and Clinical Director of the Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service. As the Chair of Rural and Remote Mental Health Practice for the RCSWA his teaching and research endeavours focus on improving the capacity of health services in delivering mental health care to rural and remote communities.

Dr Kalliste Black

Consultant Psychiatrist

Kalliste, a Consultant Psychiatrist with a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, works at the Great Southern Mental Health Service. She is acting Assoc-DoT for RPTWA in the Great Southern and Goldfields, and serves on multiple RANZCP committees, including Rural Psychiatry (WA Rep) and Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr Nicholas Faint

Consultant Psychiatrist

Nicholas is a Consultant Psychiatrist who practices both publicly and privately and enjoys the rural lifestyle Albany offers. He trained in both QLD and WA and is currently completing advanced training in addiction and consultation liaison psychiatry. Nic has an interest in continuing medical education.   

Prof Sean Hood

Professor and Academic Psychiatrist

Sean completed his medical degree at UWA and psychiatry training in Perth and Bristol in 2003. He led a GP Liaison role (2004–09) and chairs research with Meeting for Minds Foundation and UWA’s SPARRC. His research focuses on novel treatments for depression. Sean practices psychiatry across academic, public, and private sectors.

Michael Kyron

Post-Doctoral Researcher and Business Support Manager 

Michael is a Post-Doctoral Research and Business Support Manager with the Suicide Prevention and Resilience Research Centre (SPARRC) at UWA. Michael’s research has predominantly focused on improving detection and treatment of suicide risk within schools and inpatient psychiatric settings.

Ashleigh Jackson

Registered Psychologist

Ashleigh is a Registered Psychologist currently completing a PhD and Master of Clinical Neuropsychology at UWA. Ashleigh’s clinical background is with WA Country Health Service in Kalgoorlie and the Northern Goldfields, and her research focuses on improving access to mental health and neuropsychological services in regional WA, particularly for adolescents with ADHD.  

Juliet Bateman

Project Team Leader

Juliet grew up in the Great Southern and returned around 25 years ago after studying and travelling overseas. She is a physiotherapist and has worked in both private and public health systems. Her career has had a variety of different paths, spanning health, farming and business and now works with RCSWA Regional Training Hubs.

Kylie Bowden

Project Officer

Kylie grew up in Esperance and after various stints interstate and abroad, she now calls Albany home. Kylie has more than 10 years of experience in tertiary education, in the fields of architecture and interior design. She joined RCSWA in 2021 and is a Research Associate for the ORCHID Study and supports the RCSWA Research Steering Committee.

Lehna McLean

Project Officer

Lehna relocated from Perth to Karratha with her family in 2020 and started working at RCSWA the same year. she enjoys helping medical students who choose to spend their entire penultimate year in Karratha and aims to give them an excellent rural experience, both clinically and within the community.
